Using the SJI Virtual Joist and Joist Girders in SCIA Engineer

Wednesday, June 1, 2016 / 3:00 - 4:00 PM EDT

Historically, structural engineers have not been able to utilize software to design joists with non-uniform loading conditions or joists included in a lateral load resisting frames. With the Steel Joist Institute’s (SJI) new Virtual Joists and Joists Girders, engineers can now incorporate joist member stiffness in SCIA Engineer’s FEA workflow, making the analysis of the overall building system more accurate. These members can be verified, optimized and are given a realistic joist designation consistent with expectations of joist manufacturers and the SJI.

Agenda:

  • Explain what Open Web Steel Virtual Joist and Joist Girders are and how the tables were developed.
  • Demonstrate and explain how to specify Open Web Joist and Joist Girders within SCIA Engineer.
  • Demonstrate and explain how to specify loading on Joists and Joist Girders within SCIA Engineer.
  • Receive general explanation and tips on how to use SCIA Engineer in the most effective manner.
  • This webinar is for structural engineers, fabricators and detailers who are responsible for the modeling, analysis and design of joist and joist girder members in their projects. Upon completion of the webinar each participant will earn 1.0 PDH and receive a certificate of completion from the Steel Joist Institute.

To register for the webinar, visit the Steel Joist Institute’s Webinars page.
