Dear [[Subscriber]],

Last summer, we contacted your organization with regards to a project we were launching: an international web-based survey amongst engineers on their knowledge of Eurocodes.
At the time, your organization mentioned its interest in the results although it could not partner up with SCIA on this initiative.
It was then agreed that we would inform you and your members of the results of this survey before we issue them to the trade and general press.

SCIA, founded in 1974, develops, markets and supports software products for structural engineering in the construction market.
SCIA's software is typically used to design buildings, bridges, and other complex engineering structures, and focuses on the middle to top end of the market.
As a European market leader, with products translated into 10 different languages and in excess of 8000 licenses sold in over 50 countries, SCIA felt it important to find out how much the European construction professionals currently know about the Eurocodes.

We are therefore pleased to attach the press release regarding the results of SCIA’s international Eurocodes survey. This document will be released to the trade and general press on 30th May 2007.
We hope that you will find it useful and that, by giving you this early preview into the results, you might include some of this information in the communication to your members.
We look forward to receiving copies of any articles you choose to publish on this subject.

The results of this survey bring to light some important misunderstandings and incorrect market perceptions across 26 countries.
They also prove that the Eurocodes definitely offer improvement perspectives and have a great life ahead of them.

The main misconceptions regarding the Eurocodes include notions such as:

  • 60 % of respondents think that national standards will remain
  • 52 % of engineers foresee that the Eurocodes will increase the cost of building structures
  • 15 % of engineers believe the Eurocodes will not be introduced in their country before 2010

We refer you to the attached press release for a more detailed description of these results.

In addition to this, Jean-Pierre Rammant, CEO of SCIA Group International, and Jan Reekmans, Sales Coordinator at SCIA Group International, co-wrote a white paper (Resolving the nonsense and the misunderstanding on the Eurocodes!) including an in-depth interpretation of this survey’s results. This white paper is available upon request at [email protected].

We would like to take this opportunity to express our wish to discuss ways of collaborating locally with your organization.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss this further.

Best regards,

Francis Vanderbruggen
